Fighting for the future of Basketball and our Planet

Our Nike NBA Jerseys are made from 75% Recycled Fibres

We are steadfast in protecting the future of the place we call home. That’s why our 100% polyester Basketball jerseys are made from up to 75% recycled polyester fibres that were once plastic bottles.

We take pride in the fact that USA Sports sells high quality Nike Basketball jerseys made from recycled polyester that produces up to 30% lower emissions than virgin polyester. This means you get the best of both worlds – high-performance basketball jerseys with less impact on the environment.

Plastic Bottle Facts:

  • 14% of all litter comes from drinks containers and the percentage increases when you include labelling and bottle caps.
  • According to the Container Recycling Institute (CRI), 100.7 billion plastic drink bottles were sold in the USA in 2014 – that’s 315 bottles per person.
  • 57% of those units were from plastic water bottles: 57.3bn were sold in 2014, which is a huge increase from 1996 where only 3.8bn plastic water bottles were sold.

Plastic in our clothes?

Clothes made from plastic waste can help to reduce carbon emissions. This is due to the reduction of processes required since the recycled aspects of the product has already been made, meaning: reusing plastic is better for the environment than it is to create raw materials from scratch, and reduces the need to remove plastics from the product through alternative recycling processes.

People think of plastic as a hard, solid, flexible, and durable material that can be used in a variety of applications. Clothing made from plastic, however, shows little difference in quality or texture from that of “normal” clothing. Of course, quality can vary as plastic is more suited to clothing that already contains synthetics – which ours do!

Clothes made from plastic offer some benefits to the environment. A life cycle assessment that was carried out in 2010 found that we could make savings between 40% and 85% on non-renewable energy, which as a result, could lead to a reduction of global warming up to 75%.
